DoorDash is a technology company that connects customers with local businesses. Customers order meals and other items from their favorite local merchants, and Dashers deliver them directly to their doors. Dashers are third-party contractors who deliver for merchants to customers. *Dashers are paid on a per delivery basis, not per hour.
A Dasher is called a food delivery driver who signs up with DoorDash as a freelance independent contractor. They have to pick up take-out orders from local restaurants for customers and deliver them to the customer’s doorstep.
A food delivery driver has the option to set their schedules with DoorDash. The DoorDash delivery driver also has flexible hours to earn easy payments on their own time. Dashers, being independent contractors, can work part-time positions for a few hours on weekdays or full-time jobs on weekends.
The process is as simple as it looks in the DoorDash app. The DoorDash delivery driver mentions their convenient time in their driver’s account in the DoorDash app. They can specify the locations they prefer for delivery. To make their job easier, Dashers can pick up and deliver food parcels at their current location.
The DoorDash driver needs to click on ‘Dash Now’ in the DoorDash app to start receiving the delivery request. Once a request is accepted, they pick up the order from the restaurant by showing them the order number and pick up the take-out order. Then Dasher drives to the user’s given address to deliver the take-out order.
A DoorDash delivery driver has a choice to either accept or decline the request from customers. It is up to them. They can accept the request if it is workable for them to deliver. And the food delivery driver can always decline the request if the lead they receive is not suitable for their schedule.
When the food delivery driver gets an order, he receives a notification and the delivery details. The full-time dasher gets 45 seconds to accept the order. The request received by the DoorDash delivery driver has the following information like the type of order, location of the restaurant, and user’s address, distance, time, pay, tip, etc. A DoorDash driver reviews these details and decides if they would like to accept. Part-time Dashers do not need to complete a specific number of deliveries a day.
The process is pretty standard. The DoorDash driver needs to show the driver’s license and insurance proof. With this, they have to pass a background check – which hardly takes few days. And one can start working from the very next day.
When there are no orders, the DoorDash app will instruct the driver to restaurants that tend to be busy. Once the DoorDash delivery driver reaches the hotspot, an order will pop up on the screen. ]The driver can decide within 45 seconds whether he wants to accept or decline the order.
Sometimes, the DoorDash driver gets a “stacked” order. It means they receive two orders from the same restaurant going in the same direction.
